What is Black Sun?

Set in the fantasy realm of Alkebulan, Black Sun is a graphic novel series that follows a group of unlikely heroes who must band together to reclaim their world from a ruthless, invading alien armada.


The story so far...

The Gambah are an elite class of warriors who are sworn to protect the Samah Empire. Yero is their newest member.

Highly skilled but with an attitude bordering on arrogance, Yero struggles to accept the mundane tasks that have been assigned to him.Instead, he longs for the thrill of battle, and the glory that he believes comes along with it.

Ironically, his wishes come true when a bloodthirsty alien horde suddenly attacks.
Yero believes that he can hold his own against the insurmountable odds before him but will this battle for survival prove to be too much?

Who we are.

Kelvin Nyeusi-Mawazo

Born and raised in Toronto and Durham Region, Ontario, Kelvin Nyeusi-Mawazo is an author, illustrator and founder of Black Sun Comics.

He renders 3D models as 2D images and uses a process of digital painting and photo compositing to bring his comic pages to life.Kelvin is also a dynamic public speaker who has appeared on local and National Canadian television and radio where he discusses the Canadian perspective on Afrofuturism and Science Fiction.

He facilitates workshops on media literacy, as well as storytelling and artistic process with educators and students.

Yao (Tuggstar) Togobo

Yao “Tuggstar” Togobo began carving an impressive international reputation in spoken word poetry in the early 2000s.

He went on to diversify his writing
style through journalism, blogs, poetical theatre, documentary, drama and graphic novels. He was the senior writer and story producer of Adopted ID, became a member of BBC writers room, and contributing writer of CBC’s Mr.
Jane and Finch.

Currently he is featured as the co-author in the graphic novel series Black Sun: The Longest Night and has in production an urban mythical drama named Paradise.
